Who sets KCSE
examination in Kenya? Is it fair for teachers from the big schools be
given the sole mandate to set KCSE examinations? Do you
think the teachers who set KCSE
examinations leak the questions to their students?

i think
kcse and kcpe should never determine the future of students. they should
only be gauges of the government in the quality of education- both
content and delivery. secondary schools and universities should set
their own standards of picking their students to increase competition in
education market. also, talking of fairness, equality and dignity,
reviews by schools and tuitions within schools or conducted by teachers
themselves should be strictly banned/abolished. this is a matter of, 1)
conflict of intereset with regards to schools and teachers in the
conduct of their primary duties and 2) equality among students who
cannot affford to pay for these extra services. lastly, officials should
make it a point that the focus of kenyan education should never be
solely academics and examinations.

Setting of exams is done by teachers from national schools. These
teachers are presumed to be better placed because they have adequate
resources to research questions before implementing. A national
examination is such a serious issue that it must undergo several checks
to ensure that it meets all the standards. These checks and balances
cannot be done by a teacher from a village school with scarce research
materials. The Kenya National examination council carries out its own
research in selecting suitable candidates to set examinations. These
researches involve many aspects including integrity, honesty, ethical
standards, deep knowledge of the subject, experience in the actual
teaching of students, experience in administering quality school based
examinations, marking experience is also considered, interest in the
examination just to mention a few. The probability of such teachers
leaking examination is so minimal next to zero. Such teachers also
undergo oathing and hence are bound to ensure that all schools and
students have equal chances of passing. One thing you can be assured is
that even the wife or husband ,children or relatives and friends of such
a person have absolutely no idea that he/she sets national
examinations!!!

In Kenya never trust anyone so it's very unfair 4 those TA's 2 b given
the sole mandate of setting national exams coz some information ends up
reaching their students and this disadvantages students from lower
schools especially District schools!
