Topic of the week.

Who sets KCSE examination in Kenya? Is it fair for teachers from the big schools be given the sole mandate to set KCSE examinations? Do you think the teachers who set KCSE examinations leak the questions to their students?

No. The setting of the exams has various stages that eliminate such. In fact, every teacher is constantly leaking exams to the students in their teaching process.

THE KNEC DIDN'T MARK FOR ME WELL IN VARIOUS SUBJECTS.WHAT WILL I DO FOR MY PAPERS TO BE REMARK.ESPECIALLY IN MATHS,ENG,KISW,PHY AND CHEM.PREASE I REQUEST FOR THAT MATTER. I AM NYAKWEBA KENGERE ISAAC. IN MATHS I EXPECTED TO GET B+ AND ABOVE.

I understand how you must be feeling that you got grades below your expectations. However you are late for remarking as this is only possible if you apply through your school head teacher up to one month after the results are released. The only other options for your case is to resit for the examination or register with recognized university colleges for bridging courses. Remember you still have a avenues to achieve your goals and feeling low or discouraged is definitely not one of them.

Setting of exams is done by teachers from national schools. These teachers are presumed to be better placed because they have adequate resources to research questions before implementing. A national examination is such a serious issue that it must undergo several checks to ensure that it meets all the standards. These checks and balances cannot be done by a teacher from a village school with scarce research materials. The Kenya National examination council carries out its own research in selecting suitable candidates to set examinations. These researches involve many aspects including integrity, honesty, ethical standards, deep knowledge of the subject, experience in the actual teaching of students, experience in administering quality school based examinations, marking experience is also considered, interest in the examination just to mention a few. The probability of such teachers leaking examination is so minimal next to zero. Such teachers also undergo oathing and hence are bound to ensure that all schools and students have equal chances of passing. One thing you can be assured is that even the wife or husband ,children or relatives and friends of such a person have absolutely no idea that he/she sets national examinations!!!

In Kenya never trust anyone so it's very unfair 4 those TA's 2 b given the sole mandate of setting national exams coz some information ends up reaching their students and this disadvantages students from lower schools especially District schools!

Exams should be set by the curriculum developers. Many teacher who set exams normal teach exams instead of covering syllabus. Thats why at univesity students from big school can not cope since they only taught to pass and not content. Gikaru stephen. Cuea
