Mt. Kenya University
Every year, over 300,000 student in
form four sit for the Kenya Certificate Of Secondary
Education (KCSE) examination administered by the Kenya
National Examinations council (KNEC). Of this number, less
than 20,000 are admitted to the public universities with
about the same number finding their way to the private
universities.
The rest either find their way through
the existing colleges for a certificate or diploma course
or just drop out and seek employment as unskilled labour.
Colleges in Kenya lack a structure and it is hard to tell
what to do unless one undertakes a serious research.
There are the first line colleges that
offers recognised diploma and higher national diploma that
may lead you to enrol for a degree course in any of the
universities. Such colleges may include the national
polytechnics, the technical training colleges, Utali
College among others.
There are also commercial colleges that
train on special skills that may be useful to certain
employment. such skills may include business courses,
accounting, computer skills just to mention a few.
Proper research and consultation is
however paramount before embarking on any college studies
to avoid disappointments.
